High up on Widdybank Fell is the impressive waterfall of Cauldron Snout.
Water from the source of the Tees is dammed at Cow Green Reservoir and the outflow gushes down a massive natural gully into the more sedate valley below.
Spray and noise are the order of the day: Any attempts at a conversation near the raging torrent will result in a shouting exercise. It can get cold up here even in mid-summer, so bring a warm coat!
The 'Snout' can be reached on foot by either the Pennine Way via High Force or by a path from a remote car park near Langdon Beck, just off the Middleton-in-Teesdale to Alston road. The Pennine Way route brings you to the base of the 'fall which is a sight to behold. It is a fairly easy scramble up the sides to the top, where the path divides heading south over a stone bridge to Dufton Fell (Pennine Way), and north to the car park at Cow Green.

If approaching from the car park an obvious path skirts the reservoir for about a mile then once past the dam, the top of Cauldron Snout can be seen (and heard).
